Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
In the upper canton of the flag you can see a hand. It was the symbol of the Abkhazian state in the 8.–10. cent. This is the hand of Fatima, a symbol of luck. The Combination of the colours white and green should symbolize the tolerance of the caucasian nations. The 7 stars are standing there for the 7 historical countrysides of Abkhazia.

In the times of the Autonomous Soviet Republic Abkhazia, about till 1992, Abkhazia used the Georgian soviet flag with golden initials below the emblem.
