1927 · Norwegian research expedition

1928 · United Kingdom renounces for the sovereignty over the island und cedes it to Norway

27th of February 1930 · appropriation by Norway

1971 · determination as wildlife sanctuary

1977 · installation of a Norwegian automatic weather station

1978-1979 · Norwegian researchers stay on the island

1996 · the research station is extended and is manned intermittently in the following years
