The Flag and State Encyclopaedia provides comprehensive information on countries and peoples, colonies and former states, drawing on around 3,500 flags, and offers details on their geography and history, as well as their flags and coats of arms. An alphabetical list makes it easy to get started. It includes: current and historical flags and banners from all over the world, from every officially recognised state on Earth, former states, their merchant flags, naval ensigns, national flags, the flag of the head of state, or special flags; flags of secessionist territories; many provincial flags or those of subordinate territories; flags of federal states or provinces; and also flags of peoples.

The Flag Finder allows you to quickly and easily search for, identify and classify a flag you have seen. It contains images of over 4,500 flags from all over the world, including those of all officially recognised states, secessionist territories, as well as historical flags, many provincial flags or those of subordinate territories, flags of ethnic groups, and, where known, the special flags of states and territories, such as merchant and naval flags or the flags of heads of state. The Flag Finder will help you to identify a flag you have seen somewhere and to classify it correctly. It works like a filter: you know the characteristics of the flag you are looking for. Now click your way through the Flag Finder, confirming certain characteristics or ruling others out. The identification of these flag characteristics is aided during the search process by simple sample flags, which provide additional guidance.

The apps offered here until 2022 are no longer available in this form. They were created in-house by the operator of these pages and served us well for many years. They were never anything other than a web view – essentially a browser window opening onto the homepages of my websites. However, Google took a different view and disqualified the apps. The operator of this site was no longer able to comply with Google’s standards, so the apps were taken offline by the author. Unfortunately, the internet is increasingly becoming a paid information superhighway that can only be accessed by people who can afford to employ programmers. This marks the end of the many small, independent projects that were not primarily commercially oriented.
