• Origin of the Country's Name
The country's politics was determined by the Southern Transitional Council (STC, also: al-Hirak), which was founded in May 2017 during the civil war in Yemen. The STC was a coalition of various armed groups that seek the secession of the south of the country and thus the division of Yemen along the borders that were valid until 22nd of May in 1990. The basic idea behind this was probably to offer an alternative to the almost inevitable seizure of power by Islamist or Salafist groups that follows a revolutionary upheaval or a civil war in the Arab world. In addition, due to the history of the People's Republic of South Yemen and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen since 1967, the people in the south are accustomed to a certain degree of secularism and some civil liberties, which have been continuously eroded since the reunification of Yemen on 22nd of May in 1990 by the more religious and Shiite north. Article 2 of the Constitutional Declaration of the State of South Arabia stated: "The political system in the State of South Arabia is based on the principle of separation of powers. It is a civil, democratic system established and based on popular will, the rule of law, justice, pluralism, and good governance. The people shall determine the nature of the political system through a public referendum after the transitional phase." The transition period was set at two years.

The flag of South Arabia was directly derived from the flag of its predecessor state, the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (1970–1990), commonly known as South Yemen. It features three horizontal stripes in red, white and black, with a light blue triangle bearing a red star on the hoist side (at the leech). The flag was first hoisted on 1st of December in 1967 in connection with the founding of the People's Republic of South Yemen, the predecessor state of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. The design of the flag may have been adopted from the flag of the former Arab Republic of Yemen or may be directly based on the flag of Egypt. The flag of the NLF (National Liberation Front of the 1960s) also featured three stripes in red, white and black. The red star was formerly intended to express the socialist ideals of South Yemen.

The coat of arms of South Arabia was very similar to that of its predecessor, the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. It featured a Saladin eagle, similar to the eagle in the former coat of arms of Syria and in coat of arms of Egypt. The chest shield displayed the country's flag in a vertical arrangement, with the name of the country in a banner. For South Arabia, only the name of the country was changed in the banner: "State of South Arabia".

The name "South Arabia" not only describes the geographical location of the country in the south of the Arabian Peninsula, it also has a history. In 1937, United Kingdom divided the Aden Protectorate (which was essentially identical to today's South Arabia) into a West Aden Protectorate and an East Aden Protectorate, the latter of which was renamed the South Arabian Protectorate in 1963 and existed until 1967. The West Aden Protectorate was renamed the Federation of South Arabian Emirates in 1959 and South Arabian Federation in 1962. The union of the South Arabian Federation and the Protectorate of South Arabia in 1967 gave rise to the People's Republic of South Yemen, which was renamed the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in 1970. In 1990, this was united with North Yemen (Arab Republic of Yemen) to form the Republic of Yemen, from which South Arabia seceded again on 3rd of January in 2026.
